Jean-Frédéric Colombel, MD, PhD |
Jean-Frédéric Colombel received his medical degree from the University of Medicine in Amiens, France, and completed his internship, residency, and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University Hospital (CHU) in Lille, France. He joined the Faculty at the University Hospital in Lille, becoming an Assistant Professor of Medicine then a Professor of Medicine. Dr. Colombel is currently Professor of Hepatogastroenterology at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) de Lille, where he is also the Head Scientific Council of CHU.
Dr. Colombel's research interests focus on inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). He is a member of the governing staff of Registre des Maladies Inflammatoires du Nord Ouest de la France (supported by INSERM and Health Ministry) which has developed studies to investigate environmental and genetic factors in IBD. He is also a member of the Groupe d'Etude Thérapeutique des Affections Inflammatoires du Tube Digestif (GETAID), a multi-center French group involved in therapeutic trials in IBD.
The author or co-author of more than 370 peer-reviewed articles, books, and book chapters, Dr. Colombel serves as associate editor of Gut and as an editorial board member or a reviewer for several other specialist journals, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease Monitor, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Nature Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Dr. Colombel is currently the president of ECCO (European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization). He is also a member of the French Society of Gastroenterology, the Belgian Royal Society of Gastroenterology, the European Association for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the International Organization for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IOIBD).
