Scott E. Plevy received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, and a clinical fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). After post-doctoral research fellowships at the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research Laboratory, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, UCLA School of Medicine, both in Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Plevy was co-director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is also the director of the University of North Carolina FOCIS Center of Excellence.
Dr. Plevy's research interests include inflammatory bowel disease, innate immunity, cytokine biology, and inflammation. He has been the principle investigator for numerous clinical trials in ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
Dr. Plevy has contributed significantly to the medical literature on Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He is the author of numerous original articles, abstracts, and book chapters. Dr. Plevy has served as the basic science section editor for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and is a reviewer for numerous scientific and clinical journals.
