Edward V. Loftus, Jr., MD received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and he completed a residency in internal medicine at Temple University Health Sciences Center in Philadelphia, PA. He served one year as a general medical officer in the Indian Health Service at Fort Belknap P.H.S. Indian Hospital in Harlem, MT, and then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, MN. He is currently a Consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic, and Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Loftus has published many original articles and has lectured widely on the epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis, and medical management of inflammatory bowel disease. He serves as an associate editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, and a member of the editorial boards of Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, and the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology.
Dr. Loftus is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology. He is also a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. He has served as Chair of the Patient Education Committee of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (2002–2005), and is currently a member of several ACG committees.
